COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, June 23rd, golfers played at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club for the 50th Annual Golf Fore Kids’ Sake charity tournament. It raised funds through competitions—live auction and raffle—to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint.  Mid-Michigan Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eight Ten Nail Bar in downtown Flint has built a warm space where co-owners Alex and Natalie Kadie greet every customer and provide nail services. The salon will celebrate its 7th anniversary on July 27 with a customer appreciation event—'Cheers for 7 Years'—that will include local vendors and prizes.  Flint Beat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Genesee County Land Bank started an urban grazing project at Ramona Park by bringing 48 goats + one sheep to remove invasive buckthorn. Kelly Jewett said the effort improves local safety + soil quality, with similar projects planned at more Flint sites.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Flint City Council’s Finance Committee approved a measure to accept a $2 million grant from the Mott Foundation to demolish the fire-damaged Atherton East apartments complex on the city’s south side — the full Council will vote on the measure later this summer while a $425,000 funding increase for the Flint Housing Commission also advanced.  ABC 12
  • Flint will use roughly $1 million in federal stimulus and state grant funds to pilot a program replacing in-home plumbing in homes that still test high for lead after the water crisis—local officials say the measure is aimed at improving safety.  MLive
  • Bishop Airport received more than $4.9 million in federal funds to reconstruct its terminal roof system and install new directional signs - Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet announced the grant on June 23 from Bay City.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Genesee County Parks & Recreation announced that the Mott Lake Regatta— the War of the Wake— will be held on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 at the no-wake impoundment of the Flint River near Bluebell Beach, where hydroplane boats will race on a one-mile oval with each heat starting at 11 a.m. Visitors will pay $20 per vehicle, and the event will feature a beer garden, food trucks, live music, and improved audio for first-time fans to understand the race protocols.  MLive
