CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Candice Patton, 37, faces a charge of first-degree premeditated murder for allegedly hitting her boyfriend, William Clemons, with her SUV outside a Speedway gas station on May 5—she was sent for mental competency testing at the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry and remains in Genesee County Jail without bond. - ➤ A trial for Candice Patton—accused of running over her boyfriend with an SUV and facing a 1st Degree Homicide charge—was put on hold when the court granted her a motion for psychiatric testing, according to court records. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Photographer Ayana V. Jackson will visit Flint for a free Artist Talk at MW Gallery on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. located at 815 S. Saginaw St + her talk is part of the group exhibition Figuratively Speaking that runs until August 23 + the exhibit features two of her works. Flint Beat

- ➤ U of M Flint College of Health Sciences hosted its annual Exploring Health Care Careers summer camp on Tuesday afternoon for students from across Mid-Michigan—students participated in an accident simulation that showed what medical professionals do and learned about other health careers beyond nursing and medicine. FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Flint have gained financial skills after completing the Accelerated Savings and Asset Program run by Mission Possible—participants saved up to $500 and received a $2,000 match while learning how to budget and improve credit scores. A graduation ceremony with a silent auction raised funds for the nonprofit. Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flint is expanding its In-Home Plumbing Program to cut lead hazards by fixing risks in inside pipes. The program will use $510,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act plus $490,000 in grants, and the city council may start hiring contractors tonight as each repair is estimated to cost about $10,000. - ➤ Former Flint Fire Chief Raymond Barton settled his wrongful termination lawsuit with the city for $225,000 after he had accused Mayor Sheldon Neeley of retaliation for his investigation of a fatal house fire on Pulaski Avenue—Barton had initially sought $10 million in damages when he was fired in 2023.
