- ➤ The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village (SBEV) will mark its 10th anniversary on Saturday, July 12 with a community celebration from 2 to 6 p.m. Local residents, partners and vendors can join the event at the Insight Building (4400 S. Saginaw Street) where free food, bounce houses, games and activities will be offered for all ages. Flint Beat
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Mid-Michigan State Police urged drivers to slow down after multiple speeding incidents over the holiday weekend—on July 4 a 19-year-old from Owosso drove 100 mph on I-75, crashed, and injured five individuals while a K9 tracked him down—and officers planned speed enforcement operations through July. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ A 20-year-old Flint man, Jayvion Miller, was arraigned on seven charges including first-degree premeditated murder after a double shooting at The Hair Shop on Fenton Road near Major Street last week, where a 23-year-old died and a 25-year-old was hospitalized. ABC 12
- ➤ Taswala Williams, a 50-year-old Flint resident, was fatally beaten and stabbed outside Marian Hall on her birthday on July 1—she died two days later at a local hospital as authorities offer up to $2,500 for information. ABC 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ At the Dort Financial Center, filming has turned parts of Flint into the set for the upcoming film Clay, directed by actor-filmmaker Alexander Wraith. The film tells an underdog boxing story and stars Michael O’Hearn as an undefeated champion — a role that brings local grit to the production. Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Burton City Council voted on Monday to cancel the planned roundabout at Belsay and Bristol Roads after residents and local business owners, including Nehring's Market, raised concerns over traffic and access. The decision preserves the market's main entrances and reflects the council's response to community input. ABC 12
