COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library named Ann Manko as interim executive director after Taliah Abdullah left the role—Manko will work with staff and community partners as the board begins its search for a permanent director later this year.  Flint Beat
  • Flint area police and other local law enforcement agencies will play basketball with children this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at McCree Flat Lot downtown—a community event offering free food, games and a friendly tournament to build trust.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • The Genesee County Administration Building was evacuated Monday morning after a bomb threat led police to conduct a sweep and clear the building at 9:40 a.m.—officials reported it is now open.  MLive
  • Flint City Councilman Leon El-Alamin has been charged with alleged assault with intent to do bodily harm and domestic violence following an incident in Mt. Morris Township on July 10—he said he is not guilty and has forwarded all comments to his attorney.  Flint Beat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flint and Genesee Economic Development has proposed to purchase Morrish Elementary School for $40 million to fund the construction of a new building if Swartz Creek Community Schools agrees to the sale. Residents can share their views via an online survey until Monday and at a community forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday — the deal would incorporate the school site into the Mundy Township Advanced Manufacturing District.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anthony Hudson, a Grand Blanc Township businessman, said he is running for Michigan's next Governor. He discussed his plans during an interview with Mid-Michigan NOW and joins a crowded race with candidates from both major parties and an independent.  Mid-Michigan Now
