- ➤ The Lebowsky Center in Flint hosted a discussion — focusing on generational diversity in the workforce — that brought together workers from Gen X to Gen Alpha and community partners to talk about workplace challenges. - ➤ Abbott’s Meat, a family-owned shop that has served Flint since 1907 and is known for its Flint Original Coney Sauce, will continue normal operations through most of 2025 before closing for good—owner Ed Abbott said he is stepping back after three generations. Mid-Michigan Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Flushing police arrested 48-year-old Randall David Cocking on Saturday for first-degree murder and armed robbery after they found a 71-year-old woman's body on Autumn Drive last Friday—he could face life in prison without parole if convicted. ABC 12
- ➤ Flint City Councilman Leon El-Alamin, who represents the First Ward, faces two charges for allegedly punching and choking a woman after she locked herself in a bathroom and called 911, with an arrest warrant issued as he has not yet appeared in court. ABC 12
- ➤ A 27-year-old Flint man died from injuries sustained in a June 29 shooting near Dana Lane and Woodlin Drive — police ask anyone with information to contact trooper Tanner Davis at 989-590-0719. MLive
- ➤ Flint City Council member Leon El-Alamin faced assault & domestic violence charges after he allegedly punched, dragged, and choked a woman in Mt. Morris Township, and an arrest warrant was issued for him on Monday, July 14. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Flint Youth Film Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary with four days of free events that will include film screenings by young filmmakers and an opening reception at the Flint Institute of Arts on July 17. Myke Michaels, known for creating the Demogorgon, will lead a special effects makeup workshop on July 18 from 5-6 p.m.—additional screenings and an awards celebration are set for July 19 and 20. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flint’s Third Ward voters will go to the polls on Aug. 5 to elect a council member to fill a seat left vacant since September after Councilman Quincy Murphy died. Candidates Beverly Biggs-Leavy and A.C. Dumas tied by 165 votes in May and the winner will serve the remainder of Murphy’s term through November (only residents of the old Third Ward district are eligible to vote). Flint Beat

- ➤ Flint held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday for its first mixed-income condominium development, The Gatehouse, located along 5th Avenue between Mason and Garland Streets. The project features 16 modern, two-story row homes offered in two and three-bedroom floor plans with prices ranging from $209,000 to $229,000—subsidies from the Genesee County Land Bank may lower costs for local buyers.
