CRIME NEWS

  • Michigan State Police said that a drive-by shooting on June 29 near Dana Lane on Flint's north side left a 27-year-old man critically injured who died a few days later & no one is in custody.  ABC 12
  • Flint police arrested a community member after he was removed from a City Council finance committee meeting at City Hall on June 18, as the session devolved into personal attacks that halted city business.  MLive
  • Three Flint City Council members called for Leon El-Alamin to resign after his arrest on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and domestic violence.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Sandisk has canceled its plan to build a semiconductor factory at the advanced manufacturing site in Mundy Township due to economic uncertainty—rising tariffs and supply issues influenced the decision. The state will keep developing the site and search for a new company to bring jobs and boost the local economy.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint is installing 15 new parking units on Saginaw Street to simplify travel for residents and visitors. The system will charge $1 per hour with a four-hour maximum and enforcement will begin on August 14—similar to systems in Ann Arbor and Traverse City.  ABC 12
  • Flint Police Department welcomed two new K-9s this month—Kyper, a 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd with Officer Forstyk, and Winston, a 20-month-old Belgian Malinois with Officer Saucier. The dogs completed a six-week training course with J and S K-9 to prepare for narcotics detection and locating missing persons.  ABC 12

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Genesee County Land Bank Authority celebrated the opening of Flint's first mixed-income condominium development—the Gatehouse—by launching 16 modern two-story row homes with two- and three-bedroom plans. The development is located between Mason and Garland Streets and its units are priced between $209,000 and $229,000.  ABC 12
