- ➤ On Thursday, the fourth annual Flint Harmony Fest at Memorial Park connected residents with essential services as booths from law enforcement and healthcare joined bounce houses and food trucks. The event also featured music by Rio Da Yung OG, who sponsored a bike giveaway for kids—boosting community spirit. ABC 12
- ➤ Hutchinson Neighborhood Market on Flint's north side is partnering with the Fair Food Network to celebrate Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Month — a program that gives SNAP recipients a dollar-for-dollar match on produce purchases up to $20 a day — to help local families access more fruits and vegetables. - ➤ Flint woman Taswala Williams was fatally stabbed in downtown Flint—days before her death her family recorded her farewell message that showed she was a positive light. MLive
- ➤ Flint First Ward City Councilman Leon El-Alamin is set to appear at 11 a.m. on July 24 to face charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence from an incident in Mt. Morris Township on July 10—his bond was set at $7,500 and a council member has called for his removal. Flint Beat
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Porchfest 2025 took place Friday night in Flint's historic Carriage Town — organizers closed West First Avenue and Mason Street to traffic so residents could enjoy music, food and local talent — and the event spread festive energy across several blocks. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint will host the Really Cool Comin Con at the Dort Financial Event Center this weekend—featuring vendors, celebrity autograph sessions, and interactive activities—and the event runs through Sunday with free admission for children 10 and under and free parking. Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Whitmer announced that more than $144 million in medical debt will be erased for 210,000 Michiganders — over $8 million of that debt will be forgiven for more than 10,000 Genesee County residents. The state partnered with nonprofit Undue Medical Debt and will plan further rounds of debt forgiveness to ease financial burdens. ABC 12
- ➤ Genesee County commissioners gave initial approval to a $1.2M grant from the Mott Foundation to keep sheriff’s deputies patrolling downtown Flint through Operation Arrowhead from Aug. 1 until July 31, 2026. The program, which began in 2022, allows Flint police to focus on crime in other neighborhoods, and commissioners will vote for final approval next week. MLive
