COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local law enforcement agencies hosted a Basketball with a Cop event on Saturday in downtown Flint—youth showed off basketball skills and enjoyed free food and games while building positive interactions with police. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police, City of Flint Police Department, and University of Michigan-Flint Police worked together to bridge the gap between officers and the community.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint’s 15th annual Pride Festival drew over 1,000 people within the first two hours on July 19 at the Flat Lot — the event featured many vendors, food trucks, and live drag and music shows as it moved from its traditional site because of riverfront renovations.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint City Council member Leon El-Alamin, accused of assault and domestic violence (according to council members), is being asked to resign amid ongoing controversy. A California-based chip manufacturer scrapped plans to build a semiconductor facility that could have brought thousands of jobs to Genesee County (a decision that raises local economic concerns).  MLive
