CRIME NEWS

  • On July 5, Grand Blanc Township police said Ter-ray Pendelton fired seven gunshots during a road rage incident on Porter Road near Woodsdale Drive and nearly hit a vehicle before he was arrested on July 15 on multiple charges including assault with intent to murder—authorities found a 9mm handgun linking him to the shell casings from the incident.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Flint Public Art Project unveiled a new mural on July 21st at Factory Two on N. Grand Traverse St. in Flint— the artwork shows a balance between technology and wonder.  Mid-Michigan Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mott Community College faculty union is suing the Board of Trustees over an alleged unfair hiring process for President Shaunda Richardson-Snell. The case will be heard today at 3:30 p.m.—faculty demand transparency and a national search to ensure fair procedures.  ABC 12
  • The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village in Flint has marked its 10th year by offering after-school programs that help local youths succeed in school. The program has grown into a multi-state effort with branches in Chicago, Coldwater, and Keokuk, Iowa — providing leadership development and family support in underserved communities.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of State suspended In My Lane Driving School at 1510 West Court St.—Suite 3 for alleged violations of the Driver Education Provider and Instructor Act after investigations found the school failed to maintain student records, exceeded classroom capacity, falsified records, and allowed ineligible students to attend class. No classes are being held during the indefinite suspension pending further investigation.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Plans for a multibillion-dollar semiconductor factory that would have created nearly 10,000 permanent jobs and 5,000 construction roles were canceled, and local and state officials said they remain committed to preparing the Advanced Manufacturing District site—actively seeking new partners for future development. Michigan had offered a $6.24 billion incentive package with cash grants and tax breaks, but the project was called off amid national economic uncertainty.  MLive
  • The Metro Police Authority of Genesee County entered a 287(g) agreement with ICE to train four officers so they can enforce limited immigration laws when criminals are involved + addressing the region’s large transient population. Chief Matthew Bade stated the program is not meant to target undocumented immigrants indiscriminately.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • After councilman Quincy Murphy died ten months ago, Flint 3rd Ward voters will elect a replacement on Aug. 5 to finish his term—Beverly Biggs-Leavy and A.C. Dumas qualified for the ballot while LaShawn Johnson is running as a write-in candidate.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Men in Genesee County have one of the nation's lowest life expectancies at 73.9 years and are less likely to see a doctor on an annual basis—Men’s Health 1st will host a symposium at Flint Institute of Arts on July 29 from 9 am to 11 am to promote preventive care and health resources.  Mid-Michigan Now
