CRIME NEWS

  • The Genesee County Sheriff's Office warns that illegal vaping devices disguised as toys are hard for parents to spot at schools and homes + many of these devices imported from China feature hidden compartments and LED lights that let teens vape secretly.  ABC 12
  • Marcus Prevost, a 26-year-old man shot in a drive-by on Dana Lane on June 29, died a few days later in hospital from complications of his injuries—authorities are offering a $2,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Summerfield Early Childhood Education Center on Milbourne Ave. held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday—showing major upgrades like a new main entrance, windows, roof, boiler system and repaired parking lot. The improvements aim to create a safer environment for students and families.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Secretary of State's Office suspended the license for In My Lane Driving School in Flint for violations such as failing to maintain required student records and allowing ineligible students to attend classes. The school was suspended on July 17 and is not allowed to host classes while an investigation continues.  ABC 12
  • Today, Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley sent a resolution asking City Council to hire Fleirs and Vanderbrink, a firm from Grand Rapids, for a $136,000 evaluation of Flint’s water system — the plan will review watermains, pumping stations and storage tanks, assess repair costs and propose a new water rate structure required by a state consent order.  MLive
  • Activist Jedidiah Brown, 38, who was jailed after staging a protest that brought a casket to Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s home earlier this year, rejected a plea deal that would have barred him from City Hall — his trial is set for Sept. 4.  MLive
