CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Malik Webb, a 30-year-old Flint man accused of shooting three people during a Christmas Eve crime spree in Oxford Township, will undergo an independent mental competency evaluation with a hearing set for Sept 2—he remains in jail with no bond. ABC 12
- ➤ A 17-year-old, Brandon Monreal, faces charges including second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death after he sped while intoxicated on July 4 on Dort Highway near Carpenter Road, causing a crash that killed passenger Kayleb Henry and injured two truck occupants—he was arraigned last week and will face further court proceedings on July 31. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ An Ingham County judge dismissed the lawsuit filed by the Mott Community College Education Association against the college and advised the union to use its grievance process. The union will move forward with arbitration and may take further legal steps over concerns about the board's hiring process and Trustee Sue Couch's role in the matter. ABC 12
- ➤ The Genesee Intermediate School District held a Summerfield Early Childhood ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate major upgrades that create a welcoming learning environment for Early Head Start and Head Start Preschool students + their families. The improvements include a reconfigured main entrance, a repaired parking lot, new windows, a new roof and a new boiler system. ABC 12

- ➤ State agencies and county health officials await water test results from Flint Park Lake after a rapid test detected cyanotoxins between 1-10 micrograms per liter. The no-contact advisory for people and pets remains in effect—prompting local officials to hold off on further actions until the lab findings are received. MLive

- ➤ Investigators in Flint are still verifying water crisis claims by asking residents to supply needed documents and sign forms before they receive settlement checks — delayed payments may not arrive until late summer or fall. Retired detectives with the Pintas Mullins Law Firm have finalized three claims and continue working with others amid confusion over missing paperwork. ABC 12

- ➤ The Crim Fitness Foundation is set to host its 48th HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races with about 12,000 participants expected, elite prize money returning, and packet pickup starting on Aug.21.
