COMMUNITY NEWS

  • About 400 people attended the eighth annual London Strong 5k run at Creasey Bicentennial Park on Thursday despite a hot stormy day in Grand Blanc Township. The nonprofit started by Tina Eisenbeis in memory of her daughter London donated nearly 60 automated external defibrillators and will use event funds to buy more for local groups.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Families gathered at Applewood Estate to celebrate Flint's annual RX Kids baby parade—an event marking over a year of support that gives mothers $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 monthly for their babies. The program has eased financial burdens and will expand across Michigan to help more families.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint residents attended an interactive event on Friday, July 25 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1546 Stone Street where the Genesee County Land Bank showcased how goats controlled invasive buckthorn to restore local green spaces—families enjoyed guided tours, petting opportunities, food trucks and live entertainment.  Flint Beat

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 66-year-old Flint woman named Patricia Kitto died in a crash in Grand Blanc Township on Thursday when her pickup truck collided with a semi-truck near Dort Highway and Grand Blanc Road, and the pickup driver was hospitalized with minor injuries while the semi-truck driver was unharmed.  ABC 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State regulators said Consumers Energy may face a $75,000 fine after tests in May and July 2024 and again in March 2025 showed its Covert Generating Station near South Haven exceeded limits for particulate matter and carbon monoxide. The company is working with regulators to update its emissions limits and will conduct further testing while officials accept public comments through Aug. 7 — they stated the violations did not cause actual environmental harm.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hurley Medical Center unveiled two new robotic systems, the ION and the Da Vinci 5, that improve patient care by offering safer, less invasive surgeries. The hospital is now the only one in the region to offer both platforms.  ABC 12

  • The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament returns to Flint today — marking its 51st year as the 3-on-3 event offers slam-dunk, 3-point, and free throw contests with prize giveaways and a resource fair while organizers seek volunteers downtown.  Mid-Michigan Now
