COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Hand of God Ministries hosted its third annual Christmas in July event on Sunday in Flint, offering residents free food, haircuts, back-to-school giveaways, on-site job opportunities, plus a 3-on-3 basketball tournament with cash prizes and family activities that reminded them they are valued. - ➤ The Flint/Genesee Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind held its 4th annual summer picnic at Cook Park in Flint from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to raise awareness about resources for blind and visually impaired individuals (food, games, and vendors helped create a welcoming atmosphere). - ➤ A regular visitor to Sagebrush Cantina, 70-year-old Kenneth Stayt won a Lucky For Life ticket that matched all five white balls drawn on July 19 and chose the $390,000 lump sum prize. He plans to share his win with family and friends — then invest the remainder. Mid-Michigan Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A series of shootings on the north side left nine people injured and two dead as police responded to four separate scenes—one linked to a domestic violence incident, one to a group feud, one near Canaan Baptist Church, and one at a business that left a man critically wounded while community members urged increased officer presence. - ➤ On July 27th, Flint police responded to four shooting incidents that began with a domestic dispute on Stewart Ave leaving a 45-year-old woman dead and injuring two others, followed by a feud at a large gathering that killed a 25-year-old man and left several in critical condition, along with related shootings from a road rage event and at an Amaco gas station, with detectives searching for suspects & urging any victims or witnesses to come forward & requesting additional details. - ➤ Officials with Explore Flint and Genesee expect summer festivals to boost the local economy by $22.9 million—events like the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament from July 24–27 and upcoming festivals including Back to the Bricks Main Event, Crim Festival of Races, and Ally Challenge will bring visitors to the area.
