CRIME NEWS

  • Jeramie Lee Edenburn, 46, of Flushing Township pleaded no contest to charges of second-degree murder, sexual assault and torture for killing his wife Jennifer and was sentenced on July 29 to serve between 40 and 80 years in prison—he also stabbed the couple’s dog, which survived—court records show.  MLive
  • Flint police said that a woman riding her bicycle was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash Monday afternoon on North Saginaw Street near East Gillespie Avenue when she was struck by a silver Buick Rendezvous and the driver fled the scene.  ABC 12
  • Flint Police Department began an internal review after a video released online showed an officer macing a group downtown at 2 a.m. on Aug. 3 — the agency said it is investigating the incident to ensure transparency.  Flint Beat

  • Communities First, Inc. is hosting Community Candor LIVE—a free breakfast and business forum at General Motors’ historic Durant-Dort Factory this Friday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Glenn Wilson will moderate a discussion with panelists Brian Calley and Quentin L. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Flint Registry will continue operations through 2026 after receiving $4.8 million in federal funding from the CDC—supporting its work to connect residents affected by the water crisis to services like mental health care and insurance. The funding followed the reinstatement of a CDC department that oversees the project after previous cuts and is critical to keeping the registry active.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Unverified election results show 328 unassigned write-in votes for LaShawn Johnson on Tuesday, exceeding the votes for either candidate on the ballot in the race for the 3rd Ward Flint City Council seat. The county Board of Canvassers will review ballots today at 1 p.m. as Johnson, the only registered write-in candidate, seeks to fill the vacancy left by the late Quincy Murphy.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hamilton Community Health Network kicked off National Health Center Week in Flint by hosting its Hope + Health Day event at the Center for Hope, where free showers, hygiene items, clothing, vaccines, and health screenings were provided along with a hot meal, live music, and community support. The network will hold a Family Fun Fest on Tuesday + a Healthy Harvest today as part of the weeklong celebration.  ABC 12
