COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Genesee County will host Main Event 2025 from Aug. 11 to 16 with classic car shows, an outdoor movie night and a rolling parade from downtown Flint to Grand Blanc. Downtown Flint will hold a Cruise N Concert on Friday and a Main Event Saturday at 10 a.m. with a veteran tribute and the unveiling of a new statue honoring the late sculptor Joe Rundell (free registration is available).  MLive
  • A summer barbecue cook-off is scheduled to take place at Davison Farmers Market today.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Mt. Morris Township are investigating a string of overnight vehicle break-ins and thefts at Angola, Collins Avenue, Estrelle Avenue, Elstner, and Nutana Avenue and in some cases criminals shattered windows for entry—security images captured by a local business show two individuals who may be linked to the incidents and residents are urged to secure valuables and report any suspicious activity.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint’s monthly ArtWalk is underway with new exhibits from solo artists Caitlin Cartwright, Heather Kaplan and Mayuko Ono Gray—featuring contemporary painting, whimsical ceramics and large-scale graphite drawings. The exhibit at GFAC Gallery is part of the event that also launches the Michigan Water Color Society’s third signature show running until September 5.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint rap legends will honor the late MC Breed with a concert on August 10 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the FIM Capitol Theatre during Flint’s 810 Day as The Dayton Family, Top Authority, Jake the Flake, and a special appearance by 8Ball & MJG perform to celebrate his legacy.  Flint Beat

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Flint residents and local leaders gathered Friday morning at GM's historic Factory One on Water Street from 8 to 9:30 a.m. to discuss economic growth and support for small businesses — Communities First Inc. emphasized state efforts to bring higher-paying jobs and economic reinvestment — and announced a free breakfast event will return this fall.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Robotics teams from around Michigan gathered in Flint on Friday at Kettering University for the All-Star Alliance Invitational. The second-year event promoted collaboration—teams from the Great Lakes State worked together on skill-based challenges.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan firefighters are in Canada fighting over 700 wildfires and are being sent by helicopter to remote areas where they work 17 to 20 days before returning home—smoke from the fires has led to poor air quality in Michigan. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said it will send additional crews until the wildfires are under control.  MLive
