  • For more than 21 years, the Gojcaj family has run Country Carriage Restaurant in Swartz Creek where customers enjoy top-selling fish and chips, omelets and homemade lasagna—recently adding beer and wine while closing on Sundays to honor family time.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Flint hosted its 13th annual EDM festival on Saturday, August 9, with 10 stages, silent disco sections and vendors filling the streets. The event showcased local and regional artists — including young producer Knox Boogie — and offered a day of energy and self-expression for the crowd.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flint Community Schools named Dr. Natoya Coleman as the new Chief Innovation Officer to strengthen leadership and plan projects including the new Central High School and an improved STEM curriculum—from early childhood to eighth grade. She will work with Superintendent Jones to share daily responsibilities and drive the district forward.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In downtown Flint, a police officer pepper sprayed several food truck customers and arrested a worker as caught on video by 58-year-old Debra Coleman. Last week, a write-in candidate won a council seat and races for the Burton City Council and a parks millage in Grand Blanc Township were decided — showing local political change.  MLive
