CRIME NEWS

  • Police confirmed an 18-year-old girl was fatally shot around 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 in downtown Flint during the 810 Day celebration—authorities are investigating the incident.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Organizers announced on Aug 11 that Songs of Our Mothers will be held at MacArthur Recital Hall in Flint — additional details on the event timing and ticketing will be provided soon.  ABC 12
  • Back to the Bricks main event week in Flint kicked off on Monday, August 11 with the Cruise N’ Car Show—today, the Bricks Flicks drive-in runs on US 23, and upcoming events include Rolling Cruise on Wednesday and Thursday, a concert on Friday, and the Main Event opening ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint City Council rejected a proposal to settle former Fire Chief Raymond Barton’s lawsuit against Mayor Sheldon Neeley for $225,000, leaving the case pending in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Barton says he was fired for refusing to change his recommendation to dismiss two firefighters after a 2022 house fire killed two children — city officials have not commented on next steps.  MLive
