CRIME NEWS

  • Richard Tattersfield—accused of a deadly hit-and-run—was arraigned Tuesday in Genesee County District Court on felony and misdemeanor charges after he fled the scene of a motorcycle crash near Outdoor Adventures in Richfield Township on June 13 that killed 48-year-old Stephanie Thomas.  ABC 12
  • Activist Jedidiah Brown, 38, appeared remotely before Genesee District Court Judge Jeffrey Clothier on Aug. 12 after he turned down a plea deal that would have kept him out of Flint City Hall following his protest where he brought a casket to Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s home.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Craig Douglas shared advice on how to get back into the school routine on Aug 12 — his tips helped Flint students and families adjust for the new school term.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 12, the EPA canceled $156.1 million in funding for Michigan’s Solar for All program — a plan meant to lower energy costs in low-income areas and build local jobs. Michigan officials said they are working with the Attorney General to decide next steps.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet requested federal funds to fix key mid-Michigan projects in the FY 2026 budget, including taking down unsafe structures, developing land near Saginaw Valley State University, fixing roads, replacing a weak bridge, and upgrading a fire station. The plans aim to create jobs and improve safety and economic growth — efforts that will benefit communities in Genesee, Bay, and Bridgeport Charter Townships.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • On Tuesday, the City of Flint teamed up with Ashley Capital and the Brothers and Sisters of Oak Park to announce a $500,000 investment for the revitalization of Oak Park—Flint’s first public park built on historic Tent City land. The project will add new pavilions, picnic tables, and grills and include a 20-year maintenance plan to keep the park open for community use.  Mid-Michigan Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Memorial Healthcare is converting the old Rite Aid location at 218 W. Main Street in Flushing into a new center that will offer family medicine, urgent care, pharmacy, rotating specialty services, laboratory, and radiology services. Renovations are underway and the center is expected to open late December—early January.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Ortonville Brandon football is set to start 2025 and wants to get back to the top of the FML Stars Division—bringing back many all-league players and a strong defense to improve on last year’s 6-4 record and continue a streak of ten playoff appearances.  MLive
