- ➤ Today, The Hair Shop on Fenton Road gave children free haircuts, backpacks and snacks—part of a back-to-school giveaway to help them start school. The event follows a fatal shooting on July 7—owner Johnnie Davis said he hopes it will show that the community can come together to move past violence. ABC 12
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ North Flint Food Market hosted a job fair Monday to hire department managers, administrative staff, and floor workers starting at $16 an hour as it prepares to open Genesee County’s first food co-op. The market received a $1.5M grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation—helping secure inventory and supplier contracts—and it plans to open in November to serve a community facing food access gaps. - ➤ On August 18, a Flint jury convicted a 36 yr old man named Kevin Lamar Spence of 14 felonies—torture, assault with intent to cause harm and unlawful imprisonment—for violently attacking a woman on December 20 by forcing her into a car, driving her around for several hours while shooting her, and allowing her to escape when a nearby resident called 911.
