COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents have worked to revive Mott Park in Flint after Chad Schlosser began repairs on the old clubhouse in late 2020—neighbors and local groups secured a $25,000 grant and private donations for upgrades that now support game nights, disc golf, and more. Genesee County Parks maintains the grounds as Communities First invests $30 million to build 119 new housing units, with 45 set to be ready by the end of this year.  Flint Beat
  • GST Michigan Works hosted a resource fair at Mott Community College on Friday in Flint — over 20 local organizations offered job, housing, food, healthcare and veterans' services to residents. Organizers said they will hold similar events in the future.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Michigan State Police confirmed a real grenade was found in a vehicle at MSP Flint Post on August 23rd and the bomb squad removed and disposed of it—eliminating any active threat to the public.  Mid-Michigan Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hundreds of juvenile lake sturgeon were released Friday along the Flint, Tittabawassee, Shiawassee and Cass rivers to restore the species. The fish were raised by Michigan State University and the DNR after hatching naturally in the Black River and growing from four to six inches over the summer — they will help rebuild a sustainable sturgeon population.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Barry Goldmeier, a 61-year-old runner from Maryland, dribbled three basketballs while running the Crim Festival of Races 10-mile course yesterday in downtown Flint to honor the late Riley McLincha—known as Drubbler. He planned the tribute after McLincha, famed for dribbling three basketballs during races, died last June.  MLive
  • Professional runner and coach Nathan Martin from Jackson finished the HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races 10‑mile run in downtown Flint in 47 minutes and one second on August 23—earning a $3,000 prize as he tackled difficult hills in the later miles. He had previously won the race in 2023 and aimed for a personal record while challenging himself on the course.  MLive
  • Dot McMahan, a professional runner from Rochester Hills, finished first in the women’s open at the HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races 10-mile run today—she completed the course in 55 minutes and 47 seconds—earning a $3,000 prize.  MLive
