- ➤ 810 Munchies, a new restaurant for families with special needs, opened Tuesday at 3600 S. Dort Highway inside the Dort Mall in Flint. Owner Steve Brewer said the idea came from his two autistic sons—helping create a judgment free space with dimmed lights, sensory-specific items, and activities for kids. Mid-Michigan Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters are battling a large blaze at D.I. Enterprises—a pallet recycling company at 2850 E Court St. on Friday as crews spray water and close part of the street. Mid-Michigan Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities are searching for 9-year-old Braden who was last seen near Saginaw Street and Tuscola Road in Vienna Township wearing a white football jersey and blue jeans—K-9 teams are tracking his scent and residents are urged to call 911 if they see him. ABC 12
- ➤ Police reported that 14-year-old Kimora Newell was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Monday at her home on Gram Street near I-475 in Burton after her mother confiscated her phone and found a note saying she wanted to harm herself—anyone who sees her should call 911 immediately. ABC 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Michigan University announced a new program, the Charter to CMU Guarantee, that will offer guaranteed admission to charter school seniors with a 2.8 GPA or higher. Students from 25 charter schools, including the International Academy of Flint, will be able to apply using the code Charter2CMU and have their $40 application fee waived—this program aims to simplify the college process for the Class of 2026. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders will reopen the Haskell Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 20 after a three-year closure on the west side. Mayor Sheldon Neeley said the center will house the Police Athletic League program designed to reduce juvenile crime through sports—an effort that marks a key step in local revitalization. MLive
