- ➤ The weather ball in downtown Flint glowed orange for the first time on Sept. 4 and Sept. 8 to honor National Food Bank Day and National Hunger Day as part of Hunger Action Month. - ➤ UM-Flint’s occupational therapy director Julie Jacob traveled to Lviv, Ukraine, in July to work with five universities under the USAID Rehab4U initiative—she trained students and faculty on a new curriculum to boost rehabilitation services amid ongoing conflict. ABC 12
- ➤ University of Michigan-Flint saw its enrollment rise for the third year with more than 7,000 students on campus—Chancellor Laurence Alexander said the Go Blue Guarantee and new career programs in technology and management helped make college more affordable. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Flint’s water system has met lead standards for nine years as tests from January to June showed a 3 ppb lead level, which is below the federal limit of 15 and Michigan’s limit of 12. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy credited ongoing service line replacements for keeping the water safe—ensuring compliance across the city. ABC 12

- ➤ Flint Township rezoned the property where Myrtle Grove Mobile Home Park once stood — opening the area for future single-family homes. Township officials said the new designation will take effect after the legal notice is published on West Dayton Street. MLive
- ➤ Faten Latimer, the former director of asset management and human resources at Flint Housing Commission, claims she was fired in May after reporting alleged misconduct by board member Geraldine Redmond—she joins former Executive Director Harold Ince Jr. in a wrongful termination lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. - ➤ Tensions in Flint City Council rose as Councilman Leon El-Alamin filed a personal protection order against Councilwoman Tonya Burns over a dispute involving a city cell phone and alleged harassment—raising concerns about the council's ability to work together. Councilwoman Burns said she will attend all meetings to represent her community. ABC 12
- ➤ Mayor Sheldon Neeley reminded Flint residents about the update from Special Master Deborah Greenspan on water crisis settlement payments and said eligible residents will receive instructions this fall via the Flint Water Payment Portal. He warned residents not to share their bank information and advised them to call 202—402—2200 if they receive misleading requests—city officials will work with the special master to expedite the process. - ➤ The Flint City Council approved a settlement with former Fire Chief Raymond Barton who said he was fired for refusing to falsify documents on a 2022 house fire that killed two children—additionally, the council approved funds for law enforcement training, a collective bargaining agreement with police sergeants, and allocated $44,000 in ARPA funds to the Flint Institute of Music while rejecting $300,000 for the North Flint Food Market.
