- ➤ The Flint and Genesee Group is inviting residents to nominate leaders, businesses, and professionals who strengthen our community for the 11th annual Art of Achievement Awards—nominations are accepted online until 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The awards gala will be held at the FIM Capitol Theatre on Nov. 5, and independent judges will review 17 award categories. MLive
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Stratasys launched its North American Tooling Center of Excellence in Flint to boost automotive manufacturing by using on-site 3D printing technology — the center partners with Automation Intelligence and welcomes small companies to draft solutions. ABC 12
- ➤ At Kearsley Kone in Genesee Township, the shop has introduced the Extreme Sundae Challenge with a 6.5-pound dessert made with a Belgian waffle base, 13 scoops of ice cream, four types of candy, three sauces, whipped cream, cookies, peanut butter wafers and a cherry on top—contestants must finish it in under 30 minutes to win a free t-shirt and have their photo displayed. Michigan YouTuber JAWsome Eats beat the challenge in 29 minutes 44 seconds, and the sundae costs $25 during a busy summer season. MLive

- ➤ Michigan's state budget is still uncertain with one week until the deadline—local educators in Genesee County worry that early learning programs and child care will lose funding if the proposal is not passed in time. ABC 12
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The University of Michigan installed two solar arrays on its North Campus as the first step in the Maize Rays plan that will add panels at 45 sites including Flint by May 2028. The panels produce 600 kilowatts+ enough to power about 100 homes as the university works to reduce carbon emissions. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Ladel Lewis remains president of Flint City Council and Candice Mushatt stays as vice president after a narrow 5—4 vote today. Lashawn Johnson, who recently filled Quincy Murphy’s Third Ward seat, broke the deadlock following Murphy’s death last fall. ABC 12
- ➤ Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley sent a letter on Friday asking U.S. District Judge Judith Levy to speed up water settlement payments to Flint families — he asked for a public relations firm and a local office to guide residents through the process. The city plans to release the funds this fall following the special master’s timeline. ABC 12
- ➤ After 735 rounds of voting, Flint City Council elected incumbent President Ladel Lewis on Monday, Sept. 22 when newly elected 3rd Ward Councilwoman LaShawn Johnson cast the decisive 5—4 vote. Some council members left the meeting after her re-election, and the body remains divided. MLive
