COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bird Creek Farms is hosting its 4th Annual Flannel Fest on Saturday, October 4 — the event will bring local families together for a day of fun and festivities.  ABC 12
  • Flint will host a reception tomorrow for international students from UM-Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College and MSU College of Medicine at Queens’ Provisions on Garland Street starting at 5 p.m. The event—coordinated by the International Center of Greater Flint—will include remarks by Mayor Sheldon Neeley and Genesee County Board Chair Delrico Lloyd along with food and networking opportunities.  MLive
  • After Sunday's shooting and fire at a local church, several churches in Grand Blanc and Flint held prayer services on Monday and local therapists offered free counseling to help residents cope — counseling sessions are available today at Journey through the Seasons from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Doja Cat, a 19-time Grammy nominated singer and rapper, announced her Tour Ma Vie world tour that will include a stop at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on October 1, 2026 plus tickets will go on sale on October 10 at 10 a.m. The tour will start in São Paulo on February 5 and end at Madison Square Garden on December 1, following the release of her fifth album Vie last week.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in Southwest Michigan are struggling as high labor costs, cheap imports, and new immigration policies threaten their specialty crop businesses. They worry that these challenges will force more farms to close—risking local economic stability.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hurley Medical began advanced lung screening on September 29th to help Flint residents find lung problems early — the program uses modern imaging technology for faster diagnosis.  ABC 12
  • Striking nurses at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital rushed to help victims from a church shooting on Sunday morning but were turned away—hospital management said safe care was ensured with alternate staffing. The strike, which began on Labor Day when about 650 nurses demanded better staffing and pay, remains unresolved amid mounting financial losses—officials noted that established emergency protocols guided their decision.  MLive
