COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flushing United Methodist Church and Flushing Presbyterian Church are holding a candlelight vigil today at 6 p.m. at 413 E. Main St. to honor victims of a shooting and fire in Grand Blanc Township that killed four people—organizers say it is a time to pray and support affected families.  MLive
  • Tommy’s Express Car Wash in Grand Blanc Township is holding a fundraiser to support families hurt by Sunday's church attack. The car wash will donate 100% of all window sales to the Victim Compassion Fund—Grand Blanc Strong on October 2.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • A 10-year-old girl in Grand Blanc organized a flower sale offering free blooms to help support victims of a church attack, and her mother promoted the event on Facebook (garnering hundreds of positive comments). About 20 vases of wildflowers arranged with kind messages by neighborhood children were sold, with all funds going directly to the affected families.  Mid-Michigan Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Family Assistance Center was set up near the church shooting site in Grand Blanc to offer victim support, counseling and help after the shooting that left four dead and eight injured on Sept. 28 — it is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 3.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Taste of Culture will return on Saturday, October 11 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the CFI Center on 1110 W. Bristol Rd. in Flint + the free event will offer food, music, dance and storytelling to unite the community.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Local author J.C. Vande Zande released his horror book sequel on Sep 30—readers can now find it on Amazon.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Slotkin delivered remarks on Monday after a violent attack at a Latter-day Saints church in Grand Blanc Township, thanking law enforcement and first responders for stopping the attacker in eight minutes — she called for bipartisan efforts to address the nation’s mass shooting and mental health issues.  Mid-Michigan Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nurses on strike removed tents and chairs from picket lines outside Henry Ford Genesys Hospital after a court order required all fixed objects to be cleared by 11 a.m. yesterday — union negotiators noted that discussions did not resolve the staffing disputes that have fueled the protest — and the strike continues.  ABC 12
  • Genesee Health System is offering free mental health services and tips for both adults and children during tough times, and people in need can call 810-257-3740 or text GHS to WEGOTU for 24/7 help—this service is available to all local families.  Mid-Michigan Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flint high school sports fans are asked to vote for the top senior athlete as the fall season nears its end—46 candidates are on the ballot with votes open until 9 a.m. on Monday.  MLive
  • Head coach Dave Wolbert smiled after his team finished first at the 2025 Shepherd BLUEJAY Invite on Saturday at Shepherd High School. The Chargers won every meet they competed in so far and now lead the Division 2 race.  MLive
