CRIME NEWS

  • Doctors at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital treated many patients after Sunday's shooting at the Church of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc; some victims were colleagues and most have been discharged while three remain in recovery, with the team coordinating with Grand Blanc City Fire Department and urging other facilities to be prepared for similar events.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buckham Alley Theatre presented Doubt: A Parable on October 1, offering a production that examined themes of uncertainty and belief—local audiences engaged with a thought-provoking show.  ABC 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Census 2024 data show that Detroit and Flint rank among the nation's poorest cities with poverty rates of 34.5% and 34.4%, and many children in both cities live in poverty. Detroit's median household income was $39,209 while Flint's was $41,410—figures that place them among the lowest in cities with at least 65,000 residents.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wall Street Journal’s 2026 Best Salaries rankings showed three Michigan colleges in the top 30, with Michigan Tech at No. 12, Kettering in Flint at No. 23, and Detroit Mercy at No. 52—each beating the University of Michigan that ranked No. 55. Graduates from these schools earned extra salary boosts, with Kettering degrees adding $73,369 on average.  MLive
  • The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse’s 2026 Best Colleges list released Sept. 29 showed that five Michigan universities earned top-200 spots based on student outcomes like salary impact and years to repay college prices—University of Michigan Ann Arbor, University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University and Kettering University. The rankings highlighted strong academic and financial results.  MLive
