COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ David Dunville, a VG's cashier in Fenton, received the 2025 Circle of Excellence Award from SpartanNash for raising nearly $8,000 from company fundraisers and donating his $500 Top Cashier prize to a local food pantry. The U.S. Navy veteran also organizes Wreaths Across America at Great Lakes National Cemetery and helps the Amputation Coalition after losing his leg in a firefighting accident. ABC 12
- ➤ Lee Grant Allen is hosting the first session of Behind The Design— a free workshop at BAUHOUSE on Buckham Alley today that teaches Flint youth to use art as a way to express themselves and counter violence. The event starts at 2 p.m. and will feature local rapper Jeff Skigh along with mentors sharing their creative skills. MLive
- ➤ The Grand Blanc community will hold a vigil Tuesday evening to remember victims of the church attack at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and support first responders — the event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Don Batchelor Field at Grand Blanc High School with gates opening at 6 p.m. ABC 12
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The FBI Family Assistance Center—which helped victims after the Grand Blanc LDS Church shooting—closed Friday at 8 p.m. and now offers its counseling, crisis intervention, and legal services online. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $59K for Thelma Armstrong’s family—she was killed in a church shooting in Grand Blanc Township on September 28—and her son-in-law will use the funds to cover funeral costs. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said today that the city has finalized its budget to keep essential services running during the federal shutdown—utility shutoffs for federal employees will remain paused and mail delivery and airport security will continue. City leaders are working with state and federal partners to fill gaps in food services until the shutdown is resolved. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ The EPA is asking a federal judge to postpone the Flint water crisis court case because the government shutdown has paused funding—plaintiffs say the court is still working. This request follows a judge’s denial of an earlier dismissal attempt and may delay further legal actions until funding resumes. ABC 12

- ➤ Flint Powers Catholic boys soccer won the Saginaw Valley League title on Oct.2 with a 2-1 victory over Grand Blanc as Reagan Cameron & Colin Johnson scored after overcoming an early deficit. MLive
- ➤ The Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2025 inductees including boxing champion Anthony Dirrell and basketball standout Laurie Byrd. Seven individual honorees will be enshrined at a December ceremony. MLive
