COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crossroads Village is hosting its annual Halloween Ghosts and Goodies event with ticketed admission for trick-or-treating, a straw maze, magic shows and more. Families can also ride the 40-minute Huckleberry Railroad — a journey through festive displays, as the event runs every weekend through October.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Men Motivating Men Worldwide hosted Help Day on National Homeless Day and National Mental Health Day, where volunteers packed lunches & held mental health panel discussions for community members in Flint. The organization will also host a Halloween trick-or-treat giveaway and help with a Thanksgiving meal at Berston Field House.  Mid-Michigan Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flint city council did not support a $300,000 funding request for North Flint Food Market—a new co-op grocery that will open next month—because two council members faced conflicts of interest. The project received a $1.5 million grant from the Mott Foundation and aims to bring fresh food to the north end.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, downtown Flint hosted the October Flint Art Walk where community members viewed art from Mott Community College students and artist Emily Williams—recently returning to art after her cancer battle—and enjoyed food and socializing provided by local groups. The monthly event, held on the second Friday of each month, brought together creativity and community spirit.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on I-69 in Genesee County will face slowdowns from single-lane closures that begin on Oct.15 and run through Nov.26 — the closures set up $33.3 million in bridge improvements on 15 local structures and two near Sheridan Road. MDOT said repairs and upgrades will prepare the corridor for major future work.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Genesee County Animal Control will host a free pet vaccination clinic today at 4351 Pasadena Ave in Flint Township from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.—local residents can bring their cats and dogs for vaccines against rabies, Parvovirus and other diseases—and the event aims to reduce vet costs for pet owners who must bring ID and any vaccination records.  MLive
