COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 11, fathers and children gathered at the Mott Park Clubhouse for the inaugural Dad Stroll, wearing matching shirts and enjoying trivia games, temporary tattoos, prizes and a free throw contest — organized by local groups including the Genesee County Fatherhood Collaborative and Involved Dad. Porsha Black from the Genesee County Health Department said the event celebrated fatherhood and offered dads a chance to share family support and resources.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Happy Camper Ice Cream, led by Elena Hernandez and Erick Lawson, moved from a food truck to the UM-Flint cafeteria at 303 Saginaw St. — the shop plans to add homemade soups next week while continuing to host events that support students and the community.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Walk to End Alzheimer's in Midland drew over 146 participants and 42 teams last Saturday—supporting Alzheimer’s care and research. In Flint, registration will open at 10 a.m. with the ceremony starting at 11 a.m. on Oct 18 as part of Mid-Michigan's series.  Mid-Michigan Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The first round of district games ended Thursday night — leaving eleven Flint-area high school teams in contention across four divisions. Semifinal matchups are scheduled for October 13-15 as the teams prepare to compete for a state championship.  MLive
  • Fenton senior quarterback Noah Sheil, who returned from a thumb injury, threw four touchdown passes to help the team win 41-12 against Flushing on Sept. 12 at Fenton High School—earning him Flint-area Football Player of the Week after 3,846 votes were tallied.  MLive
  • Goodrich finished its final Flint Metro League Stars game with three players rushing over 90 yards and scoring two touchdowns each while Fenton beat Linden 46-41 in a close rivalry game.  MLive
