- ➤ The Grand Blanc Township Police and Fire Association partnered to create Better Together T-shirts, costing $20, to support victims of the church shooting; proceeds will go to the Elga Credit Union Compassion Fund—sales end at midnight on October 20 and pick up begins the week of November 3 at the township police department. - ➤ St. Mark’s Baptist Church of Flint held a restoration service called Burned But Not Consumed on Monday night at Calvary United Methodist Church on Flushing Road. Bishop Larry D. Trotter and musicians Albert Strickland + Cho’Zen performed to raise funds after a fire severely damaged the church in late August. Mid-Michigan Now

FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Mission Possible Flint is accepting applications for its Accelerated Savings and Asset program — a six-month course that teaches financial skills to residents aged 22 and older. For every dollar saved, the program will match 6:1 so that saving $500 will earn an extra $3,000 until October 30th. Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Genesee County is ending a seven-year job training contract with Peckham Vocational Industries at the Juvenile Justice Center so it can build its own vocational services — a $106,000 two-month extension was approved to let current students finish their programs. County officials said the change will shift the center toward in-house treatment and better meet the needs of court-ordered youth. MLive
- ➤ Genesee County will vote on hiring Lurvey Construction as project manager for Flint’s new state park at its meeting on Oct. 15th. If approved, Lurvey Construction—who scored highest among three proposals—is set to be paid $402,173, and the county expects the firm—to cut costs by coordinating daily operations—to keep the park on schedule next year.
