CRIME NEWS

  • A fundraiser is set for Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Triumph Church in Flint to support Talia Teneyuque, who is facing a felony charge for allegedly using food stamps to buy bakery supplies — local supporters led by Starex Smith organized the event to help her legal battle while offering desserts for purchase.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • A Kearsley Community Schools employee was fired after criminal charges were filed following an alleged off campus incident—district officials say law enforcement is involved and student safety remains the top priority.  Mid-Michigan Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Steven Low & Michael Thorp previewed the 13th annual Humanity in Harmony Music Festival happening today in Flint as local musicians prepare to perform.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hill Road in Gaines Township will close to thru traffic Monday, Oct. 20 for a culvert project+ drivers must follow a detour via Seymour, Grand Blanc and Morrish roads until the road reopens at the end of November.  MLive
  • Flint residents will start receiving settlement payments next month from a long-awaited agreement addressing the water crisis approved for over 25,000 people (including more than 13,000 children affected early on). Water activist Melissa Mays expressed mixed feelings, hopeful about the funds yet frustrated with delays caused by thousands of submitted claims.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • The City of Flushing is under a boil water advisory due to a drop in pressure from a water main break on Thursday — residents must boil water before use or use bottled water. The city will test water quality and expects to lift the advisory within two days.  Mid-Michigan Now
