  • The River Church will host a trunk or treat event on Saturday at eight local locations—details are available on the church website. Families can join a fun, safe evening to enjoy treats and community activities.  ABC 12
  • Flint Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Nearly 50 vendors sell fresh produce, prepared meals, and crafts in a venue that started in 1905 — a tradition that has grown with the city over time.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Insight Healing Center will host its second annual Trunk or Treat Party on Oct.24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 4800 S. Saginaw St.—the free event will feature decorated trunks, candy, music and Halloween-themed fun for children and families.  Flint Beat
  • Sue Peters was named as the new president of the Ruth Mott Foundation after a nationwide search following Raquel Thueme’s retirement. CRIME NEWS

  • Animal cruelty cases in Genesee County have climbed over 50% in four years—with many reports showing pets left without proper shelter or food—and local investigators say outdated laws are to blame for repeat neglect.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will repair a railroad crossing on Miller Road in Swartz Creek, causing a closure from Monday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Nov. 8. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and follow a detour along Dye Road, Lennon Road, and Elms Road.  MLive
  • Twenty-seven Michigan lawmakers sent a letter to Henry Ford Genesys Hospital urging them to negotiate with Teamsters Local 322's nurses, whose strike has lasted over 52 days—calling for safe staffing ratios, fair pay, and a cooperative work environment.  Mid-Michigan Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Genesee County Animal Control temporarily closed cat intakes and adoptions after a shelter cat tested positive for panleukopenia—an illness that can be fatal. The shelter is deep cleaning and will resume cat services on Nov. 4 while still accepting dogs.  ABC 12
