COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two German Shepherds—Ringo stuck in the mud and his friend Star who led rescuers by chasing a truck—were rescued from a golf course pond in Genesee County this morning, and animal control is now seeking fosters to nurse them back to health as they recover on a starvation protocol.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Organizers will host the Hoodies 4 The Homeless Warm Up event on Nov. 1 at the Catholic Charities Center for Hope—inviting Flint residents to support those in need.  ABC 12
  • Crossover Outreach, a Flint nonprofit, is facing a spike in food help requests as fears grow that SNAP benefits may pause; its weekly assistance rose from about 250 to 400 people with 35% being new clients. The group is asking for donations of peanut butter, canned foods, and shelf-stable milk—working with community partners to support local families.  Mid-Michigan Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Two German Shepherd puppies—Ringo and Star—were dumped in a cage into a Flint golf course pond on Tuesday and rescued by Good Samaritans who freed Ringo from deep mud while Star attracted help, and Genesee County Animal Control is treating them under a starvation protocol while seeking a foster home.  ABC 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flint is asking residents to place bagged leaves at the curbside for pickups on regular trash and recycling days until the end of November—residents must use paper bags or open containers up to 32 gallons to keep yard waste from clogging the stormwater system. Street crews will begin cleaning naturally fallen leaves on Nov. 10 to prepare the streets for winter.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint’s Mass Transportation Authority will adjust bus routes 3, 8, 11, 13, and 15 starting Nov. 17 to boost access to stores previously unreachable by public transit — MTA staff will be at the downtown Transit Center to answer questions.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint is partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to offer free food boxes to SNAP recipients and federal workers if a shutdown disrupts benefits beginning November 1. Eligible residents may get two vouchers per month for a 30-pound food box and must show proof of eligibility+ program details will be announced next week.  ABC 12
  • Flint has led a state-wide clean transit revolution by switching its bus fleet from diesel to 150 propane-powered vehicles since 2010 — saving millions and reducing emissions by up to 90%. The city’s transit authority reinvests its savings to expand clean technology and is exploring autonomous vehicles for future service.  Mid-Michigan Now
