  • Catholic Charities of Genesee and Shiawassee Counties and Clarkston United Methodist Church will give out blankets, sleeping bags, clothes and other winter supplies at the North End Soup Kitchen from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today—Carriage Town Ministries will host a free coat giveaway at 705 Garland St from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  MLive
  • MaMang, a Southeast Asian eatery at the Flint Farmers' Market, is giving out free fried rice today to anyone in need amid SNAP benefit worries affecting the community.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • 810 Tings is now open at the Flint Farmers’ Market—serving Caribbean Cajun fusion food to shoppers.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Consumers Energy will shut off power to nearly 3,800 customers (Flint's north side and the Beecher area) overnight on Nov. 7 to replace electric lines. Affected customers received postcards as part of a plan to reduce lengthy outages.  ABC 12
  • Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said one out of every three residents receives SNAP benefits as the city plans a voucher system to help people get a 30-pound box of food if Congress does not reinstate the benefits. The program—using ARPA dollars and opioid settlement funds—is set to launch at Flint City Hall the week of November 8, with residents needing to show a SNAP card and I.D.  Mid-Michigan Now
