COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents and firefighters supported Grand Blanc Township Fire Chief Jamie Jent—placed on leave for raising staffing concerns—at a board meeting on Oct. 28, and the Flint City Council asked police to check council member Tonya Burns’s residency after she backed similar rules. Township officials approved plans to turn Auker Mansion into an event space, Flint set aside $1 million for opioid programs, and Linden began a $100 fine for feeding deer.  MLive
  • Carriage Town Ministries hosted its Winter Warm Up Coat Giveaway Saturday afternoon on Garland Street—handing out free coats, hats, and other cold-weather gear to help Flint neighbors prepare for winter. The nonprofit, which served over 167,000 meals last year, provided essential support to the community during the cold season.  ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent study found that RX Kids helped Flint families access prenatal care earlier with more women starting care in the first trimester and fewer giving birth without any care. The program—which is backed by a $270 million state investment—serves eleven communities and aims to create healthier conditions for babies.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Detroit Lions fans gathered at GB's Pub on Fenton Road on Sunday to enjoy the game against the Minnesota Vikings— the pub offered 89-cent wings as a game day special. One fan said he believed the Lions would prove themselves this season after a 27-24 loss.  ABC 12
  • Hundreds attended Flint's Vehicle City Sports Card Show at the Dort Financial Center on Saturday—featuring over 250 vendors offering trading cards, autographed memorabilia, custom artwork and collectibles. Former Detroit athletes signed autographs for fans—capturing a crowd of more than 1,500 people celebrating Michigan sports.  ABC 12
