COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Genesee County Salvation Army celebrated the start of its 2025 Red Kettle campaign at the Flint Citadel with Santa Claus mingling with families — Major Randy Hellstrom said the event promoted a 'giving with joy' theme. The organization will set up 22 red kettles across Genesee county to help those in need.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Three preschool classes donated over 100 pounds each of canned goods and nonperishable items to the Outreach East pantry in Flint on Thursday, helping provide families with a holiday meal. The food bank (serving Goodrich, Davison, Otisville and Genesee County) said the donations come at a crucial time as the holidays approach.  ABC 12
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is finalizing plans to rebuild its meetinghouse and stake center on McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc Township after the Sept. 28 attack — a memorial on the site honors the four parishioners who died and eight who were injured. The congregation has met at a different location since the attack and the community remains eager for the rebuild to be completed.  ABC 12
  • Police departments in Flushing City, Flushing Township and Clayton Township received 600 teddy bears from the Teddy Bear Foundation to help comfort children facing stressful situations. The program — supported by a local lodge’s donation — plans to expand to more areas in Genesee County.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Clio Cast & Crew presents The Only Christmas Pageant In Town, a live holiday show for the community. The performance will highlight festive traditions and is set to take place soon.  ABC 12
  • Cars 108 WCRZ kicked off the Christmas season Friday afternoon in Flint by playing both classic and new holiday tunes—Santa joined host George McIntyre to bring festive cheer to listeners.  Mid-Michigan Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flint Schools approved a new two-year contract with the United Teachers of Flint on Nov. 19 and district leaders said low MSTEP scores and weak math remain major challenges. Superintendent Kevelin Jones presented a draft academic plan that calls for a review of programs — aimed at boosting instruction — while awaiting state guidance.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • AAA is hosting a Thanksgiving impaired driving event to warn travelers of the risks of drunk driving—its Tow-to-Go program will run from 6 p.m. Nov 26 until 6 a.m. Dec 1 to offer free rides within a 10-mile radius as a last resort.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sent a notice of intended action to Five Below on November 21 for pricing violations at nearly 20 stores where items labeled $5 were charged $6 or $7 in 30 cases documented from June 5 to November 5. Five Below said it will conduct an internal pricing audit, retrain staff & review pricing practices and must meet with the AG’s office by Dec 15 to avoid litigation and fines.  Mid-Michigan Now
