COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, the Kyle Kuzma Family Foundation hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Mott Community College Culinary Arts Institute—over 600 free meals were given to residents in Flint.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • World Champion boxer Claressa Shields hosted her fifth annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Berston Field House on Monday, giving turkeys, potatoes, and meal kits to Flint families. She said her childhood waiting for a turkey inspired her return after missing last year’s event to help local residents.  ABC 12
  • The Mass Transportation Authority is partnering with United Way of Genesee County and Huntington Bank to donate over $20,000 in bus passes this holiday season (helping people ride to shelter, food, work, and doctor appointments) for clients of local non-profits such as Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army. Since starting the program, more than 150,000 people have used the free passes (removing obstacles to essential services) and officials say the effort will continue to help residents in need.  Mid-Michigan Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flint entrepreneur Kayla Aguilar turned her early craft of jewelry-making in memory of her mother into a business that now offers Queen Netzo Jewelry, Lord Laird’s Premium Lemonade, and Mobars nutrition bars. Her products are sold at local pop-ups and shops, and she plans to grow these brands—focusing on healthy, community-based offerings.  Flint Beat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint Cultural Center will host the 40th annual Holiday Walk on Dec. 2 with a tree lighting ceremony in Durant Plaza at 5:15 p.m.—featuring festive appearances from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, food trucks, carolers, and live performances across the campus.  Mid-Michigan Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Flint special education teacher transformed her classroom closet into a food pantry to provide food support for students all year—she began filling it on November 3 with her own funds. The pantry will remain available and accepts donations to help meet ongoing student needs.  ABC 12
