COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Operation Handshake welcomed home active military members and veterans at Flint Bishop International Airport as volunteer groups including Patriot Guard Riders and Blue Star Mothers showed support ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Flint Bishop Airport CEO Nino Sapone said the event honored those who serve our country.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Local organizations partnered for the 17th Blessed to Be a Blessing Thanksgiving Dinner held Tuesday at Center for Hope in Flint—attendees received food, fellowship, flu shots from Alana’s Foundation, yoga demos, a gaming lab for kids, and giveaways.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • New Standard Academy hosted its third annual 'It's a Family Affair' Thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday — welcoming students, parents and community members with a free meal, and creating a safe space for everyone to connect. Principal Correy Black said the event provided vital support and helped build relationships as the school marked the start of Thanksgiving break.  ABC 12
  • Families gathered at Genesee County Probate Court for Adoption Day as adoptive parent Dwayne Williams celebrated legally welcoming his 12-year-old great-nephew, Jah'Lil. Judge Jennie E. Barkey said the event is meant to encourage others to adopt foster children + build lasting family connections.  ABC 12
  • Free Thanksgiving meals were provided on November 25, and today residents in Flint can enjoy a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with free bus rides offered by the Salvation Army L.I.F.E Center. On November 27, several local venues (including events for veterans and community dinners) will serve free meals to those in need.  Flint Beat
  • Flint rapper KrispyLife Kidd partnered with Mega Classic Diner for a Thanksgiving food giveaway—providing free turkey and fixings to local families at the diner. Attendees lined up to meet the artist and enjoy a festive meal that supported the community during the holiday season.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties will launch a five-day push beginning Friday, Nov. 28 ahead of GivingTuesday on Dec. 2 to highlight the urgent needs in Flint. The nonprofit, which provided 162,526 meals last year, will urge donations to support programs that feed residents, keep them warm and provide essential items — each day focusing on a different service.  MLive
  • On November 25, Lighthouse Connections Academy staff volunteered at North End Soup Kitchen in Flint at 9 a.m. — the online public school supported local food banks and soup kitchens across the state.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 21st, a U.S. District Court report set rules for Flint residents to start receiving water crisis settlement payments, and Mayor Sheldon Neeley said city officials are working to speed up the process. The settlement covers 30 types of claims such as personal injury and property damage, and payouts are expected to range from $1,000 to $100,000 pending judge approval & further paperwork.  ABC 12
