- ➤ Shelter of Flint (924 Cedar St.) will open on Dec. 1 as a warming shelter for women and children. It will serve 47 people nightly (5 p.m. to 9 a.m.) until March 31. MLive
- ➤ Flint Institute of Arts launched its Creative Aging initiative (for adults 55 and older) to offer free weekly art and film programs that help seniors connect and stay active. The program, which began in June, has seen strong attendance (with sessions like Sketching in the Galleries drawing a mix of new and returning participants) and plans to grow its social offerings for local seniors. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Cafe Brûlée opened at 5286 Miller Road in Swartz Creek earlier this month, offering locally roasted coffee, fresh pastries and a warm spot for locals to meet—its manager, Jessica Southwell, said the cafe partnered with local roaster Fireside Coffee to meet community demand. The shop seats about 40 to 45 people and will host more events downtown as the weather warms. MLive
