COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Flint Motorcycle Club will mark 65 years of indoor ice racing this Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Dort Financial Center to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. A launch party is held today at Scooters Bar and Grill (6004 Torrey Rd) with an auction and pre-race activities.  Flint Beat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint Cultural Center became a winter wonderland with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and city basketball star Ervin Leavy lighting a 25-ft tree to kick off the 40th Holiday Walk on Tuesday evening. Families enjoyed live music, reindeer, crafts, and treats from local food trucks across the 33-acre campus.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students and staff evacuated Kearsley High School on Wednesday (Dec. 3) after a faulty fire alarm sensor triggered the emergency, and a nearby church sheltered those on campus while maintenance worked to repair the sensor.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint Cultural Center Academy received a book vending machine donated by the Swarm Foundation in October that stocks 250 books for students in grades two to eight. Teachers reward students with tokens to choose reading materials — a program that supports improved literacy as shelves will be restocked by January.  ABC 12
  • University of Michigan-Flint nursing faculty + students are concerned that the U.S. Department of Education's new rule will remove professional status from nursing degrees and reduce federal loan limits after July 1, 2026, affecting the funding needed to complete their education.  ABC 12
  • Flint Central High School lost longtime teacher and coach Joseph Eufinger when he died at home on Nov. 25 — he dedicated 39 years to education and 34 to coaching and was fondly remembered for his legendary bear-wrestling story.  MLive
  • Flint Central High School teacher and coach Joe Eufinger, known for wrestling a bear, died on Nov. 25 and will be memorialized Saturday, Dec. 6 at Swartz Funeral Home. He taught for 39 years and inspired students with humor and kindness (a lasting legacy).  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Genesee County Board of Commissioners moved to create a new Chief Strategic Growth Officer role to drive business, housing, and broadband projects across the county. The county hopes to fill the position by first quarter 2026 as part of its plan to boost economic growth.  ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Insight Health Systems opened its new psychiatric hospital (70 beds) on Flint Medical Campus at 4800 S. Saginaw St. A grand ribbon cutting led by CEO Dr. Jawad Shah took place Tuesday.  ABC 12
