- ➤ On April 28, two Mott Community College trustees—John Daly and Art Reyes—called for Trustee Sue Couch to resign after she missed meetings and deleted prior social media posts. They argued that her absence has distracted the board from addressing key college governance issues. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Flint City Council honored three residents on Monday for pulling two women from a burning car after a crash on Pierson Road near Longfellow Avenue two weeks ago—the heroes Christopher Smith, LaAngel Hunter and Jaylin Washington acted quickly, and the injured victims are now recovering in the hospital. - ➤ Activist Jedediah Brown said he was removed from a Flint City Council meeting on April 8 by Flint Police Chief Terence Green and Officer Vincent Villareal after asking for more time to speak—he filed a federal complaint on April 29 alleging his rights were violated while supporting candidate Beverly Biggs-Leavy for a Third Ward seat. - ➤ Flint City Council did not pass funding Monday for Mayor Neeley’s Safe & Clean Summer Youth Initiative for the fourth time, halting plans for a six-week program for 100 teens that includes jobs, peer mediation training + community engagement to reduce youth violence. Neeley said he is seeking $225,000 and will accept applications if the council approves funding. ABC 12

- ➤ Serenity House opened its new Flint center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—it gives free recovery help with support groups, yoga, meditation, and natural healing for those facing drug problems, relationship issues, and trauma. - ➤ Corunna high school senior Sierra Smith, a first-team all-Flint Metro League selection, won the Flint-area Senior Spring Sports Star poll with 9,689 votes.
